Known in China as “Mei Rong”,   the practice of facial acupuncture to enhance beauty dates back to China’s Song Dynasty (960-1279 A.D.) when it was used by the Empress and the Emperor’s concubines. The benefits of facial acupuncture can include:

  • Improved muscle tone and dermal contraction
  • Takes an average of 10 years off the face

Specific Facial Acupuncture Treatments

Just starting to see fine lines and wrinkles?  Or is there just one area of your face that you want to focus on rather than the whole?  Facial Acupuncture can be applied only to specific areas if you don’t feel like you need “the whole shabang.”  You will still receive a full body acupuncture treatment in addition to your specific Facial Acupuncture treatment as well as a finishing facial massage as part of your session.  Note that detailed attention to all these zones and more is included in a full facial series.

Facial Acupuncture FAQ:

Facial AcupunctureDoes it hurt?

No more than regular acupuncture treatment, which is to say – it completely depends on you.  Some people feel every needle; some people don’t feel anything at all. Until we get you on the table we just can’t be sure.  Even when people do feel acupuncture needles, the sensation is more of pressure than of pain.  Sometimes there is a “mosquito bite” type sensation when the needle is first inserted, but it is nothing like getting a shot at the doctor.

Will My Insurance Cover It?

Insurance does not cover facial acupuncture treatment since it is “elective” and not “medically necessary.”  We do treat the whole body and can address various ailments during a facial acupuncture treatment, however, so we can bill for a part of the treatment – the part that is not cosmetic.  Depending on your insurance coverage, this could pay for anywhere from $30-$90 of your session.
